PhD students usually share their research with colleagues and peers at specialized academic conferences or by way of publications in academic journals. How many of you have thought about reaching a wider audience by talking about your research on podcasts, radio or television?
The CBC offers one way to do this: their "Ideas from the Trenches" series aims to turn PhD research into an hour-long radio show. The "There are about 50,000 PhD candidates in Canada," the website explains. But the show aims to do something about the fact that "most of [those PhD candidates] toil away for years in relative obscurity."
We'd love to see some University of Waterloo research featured on the show. If you're interested, you can contact the producers here.
Have you done other kinds of media engagements? Have you tried to reach a broader audience in another way? If so, please let us know about it!
