Hear from recent PhD-level graduate studies alumni who will share stories of their journey through their degree and their industry or academic experience since. The event will feature a diverse panel of alumni from a cross-section of professional paths, eager to engage in an honest discussion of how their careers pivoted, grew, and maneuvered unexpected challenges during their time as graduate students.

Learn more about how to make the most of your time as a PhD, and the value of making connections to accelerate your career!

Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance, or during the Q&A period at the end of the event.

Panelists

Dr. Noorin Manji (PhD ’18), Sessional Professor, University of Waterloo | Co-Founder, Love of Language

Dr. Noorin ManjiDr. Noorin Manji received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Waterloo in 2018, after completing her doctoral research that explored how modern mobile technology, like smartphones, impact human relationships. As a UW sessional professor since 2016, Dr. Manji has contributed to a wide variety of courses through which she has mentored many students and developed a reputation for excellence in teaching!

Dr. Manji is also the co-founder of the Love of Language program, which is based on a multi-level curriculum she has developed over the last seven years to help students in elementary, middle, and high school cultivate life-long confidence in their oral and written communication skills. Noorin is known, by all those with whom she interacts and works, to be a genuine and enthusiastic individual who considers herself a lifelong learner!

Jason Deglint (MASc ’16, PhD ‘20), CEO, Blue Lion Labs | Industrial Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Waterloo

Jason DeglintJason Deglint has a deep passion for science and business with the goal of solving big problems. Jason is currently the CEO of Blue Lion Labs and has a postdoc position at the University of Waterloo. During his PhD at UWaterloo he was the Vice-president of Academic for the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute Graduate Student Association.

Rosanne Abdulla (PhD ’18), Content Marketing Manager, Education | D2L Corporation, Language Consultant | Premiere Class

Rosanne AbdullaDr. Rosanne Abdulla received her PhD in French Studies at the University of Waterloo in 2018. Her doctoral research took an interdisciplinary approach to exploring the representation of melancholy and depression in contemporary French literature. Rosanne has taught multiple undergraduate, college, and continuing education French courses throughout her career. She also holds a B.Ed in Intermediate/Senior French and English from Western University.

Currently, Rosanne is the EDU Content Marketing Manager for local EduTech company D2L (Desire2Learn), where she combines her pedagogical background with her passion for writing to create engaging copy for education-based campaigns. Previously, she worked as a Bilingual Trainer at the same company.

  • You will able to submit advance questions to be included in the live session during registration. Advanced questions will be accepted until Thurs, Nov 12 at 12:00 PM.
