3MT faculty-based heats to begin in under three weeks!

In less than three weeks, the University of Waterloo's 7th annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) season will commence with the first faculty-based heat, Electrical and Computer Engineering!

Over 200 graduate students have registered for the 2019 3MT competition and are working to perfect their three-minute presentations and their one static slide. Over the years, our 3MT competitors have told us about many unique ways that they have prepared their presentations, including:

2019 Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS) launches

Graduate student survey launches

Earlier this week, Waterloo graduate students received a personalized e-mail asking them to participate in the 2019 Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS), to share their thoughts about their university experience. The purpose of this national survey is to improve teaching, learning, graduate student services, programs, student support and overall campus life for current and future graduate students.

A new look for Quest navigation

During the February 2019 Reading Week, Quest will be updated to provide clients with a new navigation experience.

The tile-based navigation structure (like the mobile view now) offers students, faculty, and staff a modernized, user-friendly experience. And while the initial style of the page and how you navigate the tiles will be different, the actual site content and how you use those pages will remain the same.

GRADflix winners announced

On Thursday, January 10 the first GRADflix showcase was hosted by Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs.

GRADflix is a research communication opportunity for graduate students. Participants create a video, moving slide show, or animation of no longer than 60 seconds (one minute) in length that describes their research.

The Board and Senate room in Needles Hall was filled to capacity with an eager audience who enjoyed beverages and popcorn while viewing the fifteen top video submissions.

Additional funding for incoming domestic graduate students

The University of Waterloo has recently announced additional financial incentives totalling $1.5 million to encourage the continued development of Canadian graduate student research. The funds are available for both domestic Master’s and PhD students.

Funding details and eligibility requirements are specific to each faculty.
