Like many grad students over the last year, Shoshannah Speers (MSc Public Health and Health Systems) had to change her research plans. Working with a non-governmental organization in the Philippines, Shoshannah pivoted her research to understanding the experience of community volunteers responding to the new food security emergency. She says: "The shift brought initial disappointments, but it has also provided me with an opportunity to reflect more deeply on research methods and expanded my view on collaboration within global health research/" A positive outcome to challenging times is that this research has the potential to make a difference, right now.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
