Tipping points are critical transitions or catastrophic thresholds at which a system shifts abruptly from one state into another, triggered by social or environmental stressors. Typically observed in complex social and natural systems, there is growing interest to identify these thresholds across systems and scales, their drivers and the consequences for society and the environment. For this talk, we invite graduate students working on conceptual and/or empirical aspects of tipping points in social and natural systems, whether in urban planning, health and demography, financial systems, ecology, environmental sciences, applied mathematics, or political science.

Join Waterloo’s Associate Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, Jeff Casello at this fourth installment of GRADtalks events.
