3MT winners 2018

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a world-wide competition that challenges graduate students to articulate the impact of their research, in just 3 minutes, using 1 slide.

On March 21, 2018 we watched fourteen students compete to see who would represent University of Waterloo in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Ontario provincial competition.  The Theatre of the Arts, Modern Languages was filled with excitement!

Our panel of esteemed judges had no simple task of choosing a winner among so many outstanding 3MT presentations.  After a deliberation period, the winners were announced:

First prize winner ($1000)

Gregory Lui, PhD Candidate, Chemical Engineering

Presentation title: Photocatalysts: Using today's waste to power the future

Supervisor: Aiping Yu

Co-supervisor: Michael Fowler

Runner up ($500)

Presentation title:  Improving peer-to-peer support with gamification

Gregory Lui will go on to represent University of Waterloo at the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Ontario provincial finals on April 19, 2018 at York University.  Best of luck Gregory!
