Deanne Gingerich (Honours Music, 2009)

Deanne just completed her first year of Masters in Ethnomusicology at York University in Toronto. She will be continuing on with her program through the summer and fall in order to complete her degree by December 2011. In the meantime, Deanne teaches piano and theory lessons in Kitchener-Waterloo, and will continue teaching when she moves to Ottawa in October 2011. Although she hasn't quite planned out what she will do after her masters degree, she hopes to continue with her education and teach at the undergraduate level.

Kathryn Ladano (Honours Music, 2003)

Please read the article on page 21 in Arts & Letters on Faculty of Arts alumni updates where Ladano was recently featured. Here she explains why she chose to study bass clarinet at the University of Waterloo and how her studies shaped the direction of her current musical career. Kathryn is an award-winning Canadian bass clarinetist, specializing in contemporary music and free improvisation in solo and chamber settings.

Shannon Baker (Honours Music, 2007)

Shannon BakerAfter finishing her degree, Shannon went to the University of Ottawa for teacher's college in instrumental music and geography for Intermediate/Senior level. Shannon is currently working as a supply teacher on the Waterloo Region District School Board and District School Board Ontario North East. She taught summer school in Timmins this past summer and can't wait until she can conduct and teach her own music class someday.



Alicia Christie (Joint Honours Music and German, 2007) 

Alicia ChristieAfter finishing her degree and while attending teacher's college at the University of Western Ontario for Intermediate Senior Vocal and German, she was offered a teaching position before she even graduated from teachers college. This position was at one of Sweden's top 20 schools - Internationella Engelska Skolan i Eskilstuna. This is an international English school where students are taught certain subjects in English and other subjects in Swedish. There she was the music teacher and taught Guitar, Keyboards and Voice to 574 students.

In the fall of 2009 Alicia will be returning to the University of Waterloo to work on her masters in German. She wants to learn more about Second Language Acquisition and Computer Assisted Language Learning. She will of course continue to sing and practice music.

Vasana Abeysekera (Joint Honours Music and English Literature, 2008)

Vasana AbeysekeraShe recently completed her first year of MMus Performance in clarinet at University of Toronto, studying with Stephen Pierre and her first year recital included works by Poulenc, Violet Archer, Mozart and Brahms.

Vasana hasn't finalized her plans for after completing her masters, but is very interested in teaching and academia.


Amy Waller (Honours Music, 2007)

Amy WallerAmy just completed her Masters of Music in Literature and Performance in Voice from the University of Western Ontario in 2009. She has been accepted to Indiana University to start her doctoral studies in Voice Performance in the fall.

Amy performed at our Noon Hour Concert on March 16, 2011 and held a voice master-class.
