Hey friends! My name is Andrew Cullar, and I’m super excited for the opportunity to come back to live and Don in Grebel for Fall 2020 and Winter 2021. I’m finishing up the last year of my Environment and Business degree, and hopefully will be able to complete a minor in both Urban Studies and Geography. So if you wanna chat about how all of those topics are related, I’m always down for insightful conversation. I come from the chart-topping city of Youngstown Ohio (you’ll have to ask me which chart that is), and I took a gap year with Mennonite Mission Network to Indonesia, before starting at Waterloo in 2016. I love singing and learning new instruments, although I’m not the best at continuing much past the basics, so if you want someone to jam with, I can’t make any promises on my capabilities! Looking forward to meeting all of you around the dinner table and endless bowls of soup (honestly the best mealtime strategy). Can’t wait for all the fun that’s sure to come these next two terms!
Hey! My name is Samuel, and im thrilled to be part of the fall/spring Don Team!
I'm in my second year studying Environmental Resources and Sustainability (ERS) and striving for a minor in Peace and Conflict studies, because peace is so cool. I'm a Third Culture Kid (tck) and was born in Germany and spent all of my highschool years in the Philippines. I have a passion for people, for traveling, thrifting and grocery shopping! I like eggs but i do not like green eggs and ham and mashed potatoes. I enjoy great conversations with people and getting know them and love learning of other peoples passions. Can't wait to meet and get to know you!!
Hi! My name is Megan -- but people tend to call me Meg -- and I am so excited to be a Fall and Winter Don! I'm in my fourth and final year of my double major in Legal Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. I am so happy to be returning to Grebel once again! I'm from Norfolk County, Ontario, which is a lovely little place best known for our county fair. I love coffee, finding new music (but nothing beats Taylor Swift), reading a good suspenseful book, and believe that The Lizzie McGuire Movie is a cinematic masterpiece. I also love to visit with people, and have a good laugh. I can't wait to catch up with returning Grebelites, and get to know all the wonderful new faces at Grebel!
Hey everyone! My name is Anya and I’m super excited to be your don for the fall and winter terms of 2020-2021! I am entering my second year of Knowledge Integration (don’t worry if you don’t know what that is, but feel free to ask me about it - I’m really passionate about my program!) I love the outdoors, so my summers are spent working at a camp and going on canoe-trips. Throughout the year, I get my fill of fresh air from going for runs, drawing or reading outside, and passing a frisbee with friends. At Grebel, I can often be found staying in the cafeteria for way too long, both because I eat very slowly and I love mealtime conversations. I’m always down to chat, study/read together or go on a spontaneous adventure. I can’t wait to get to know all of you this coming year!
Hello! It’s Maya here! I simply cannot wait to be part of the Don team for Fall term 2020! I am heading into my second year of Health Studies Co-op and am looking forward to a super unique but also incredibly exciting term! I hope you all are too! If you are trying to find me, there’s a good chance I’m either eating peanut butter, writing fantasy novels, or trying to find a shower timer. I am equal parts art (drawing, printmaking) and athletic (I particularly love volleyball and biking) enthusiast. Last, but not least, I have a particular passion for the environment and love spending time outdoors, rain or shine. Though I love to hang out and have animated discussions at the dinner table, I am also quite mellow and always available for a super chill, quiet conversation. I cannot wait to get to know all of you! What a great adventure this term will be!!!
Hello! My name is Oliver and I will be a Don winter 2021! This winter I will be going into my 3A term in Computing and Financial Management, so if you have any questions about math, CS, finance, or co-op, hit me up! I grew up in Peterborough, Ontario, home to the world's tallest hydraulic lift-lock. In my time at Grebel, I have been involved in the Grebel musical, SoCo, and various musical ensembles. Let me know if you're ever looking for a cup of tea or a game of Catan! I'm always down for a late-night walk around campus, baking, or just a good chat and I'd love to hear about whatever exciting things you are learning and discussing in (and outside of) your classes. If you're ever bored, come by my room and check out my homemade dichroic glass lamp. Looking forward to meeting you in January!
Hi folks! It’s Hayden Epp here and I am super excited to be one of your dons this Winter 2021! I’m in third year studying biology with a psychology minor and I wish I could tell you what I want to do with that, but I haven’t figured that one out yet. I grew up in the tomato capital of Canada - Leamington, Ontario, which is also one of Canada’s most southern towns on the mainland. I’m always down to talk about music, listen to records, drink tea, and eat cheese and crackers (especially Gouda and multigrain Wheat Thins, which are the best cheese and cracker, respectively). I was peace rep last winter term at Grebel and I also enjoy going to environment committee meetings and hymn sing. I look forward to getting to know you all and I hope you have a fantastic fall term before I meet you properly in winter!
Hi! My name is Simon, and I’m super excited to be a spring term Don this year at Grebel! I will be in my 2A/2B terms this Fall and Spring studying in Co-op Kinesiology, so be sure to ask if you have any questions for first year Kin/Science courses. My far off intentions are to someday become a Physiotherapist, so I can work to improve the quality of life of the community.
Hailing from small town Manitoba (and when I say small town, I mean MB small town, where we keep it real), I’m super passionate about sports (literally any, just ask), Social video games and/or board games, being in nature, impromptu deep talks with friends or strangers, and wearing shorts. You’ll likely find me spending too much time talking at Grebel tables, working hard by studying in my room, the morgue, or the library, or playing hard by jumping into whatever wacky thing I find happening at Grebel (examples: Wii mariokart tournaments, rearranging Kyle’s room, “Ice” ping pong, movie nights, Spikeball, throwing chocolate almonds across Justin’s room, practise room jam sessions, yelling “Kaboom” during NES Super Spike V-ball, and many more). Feel free to swing by my room to say hi, ask questions, or chat for a while. I couldn’t be more pumped to meet you all in Fall and Don you in Spring!
Hi everyone! My name is Hannah and I am super excited to be donning in Spring 2021! I have just finished my 2nd year of Nanotechnology Engineering and will be on co-op in the Fall/Winter, working on campus and living in the Grebel Apartments (please come and visit)!
I am known for my competitive love of Settlers of Catan and any other board or card game such as Dutch Blitz, the Farming Game and SET, so you will often find me sitting in the caf for hours on end with a game. I am also part of PeaceTech and am always interested in conversations about all things peace and tech and anything in between! I love attending Grebel events, where you will find me setting up or running the tech, or dancing my heart out (with or without a mannequin head on). Looking forward to meeting you all!
Greetings! We are the Campus Hosts of Conrad Grebel University College, and are delighted to be a part of this wonderful community. Having known each other since 2008, we got married in 2012 and have loved every moment of the journey, not only the ups, but the downs included! We moved to Waterloo from British Columbia in August of September 2017 so that Colin could begin a Masters degree at Grebel in Theological Studies. At the same time, Faith was seven months pregnant! Our daughter, Ronen, was born in October and has been a bundle of energy, excitement, and unpredictability. Despite the difficulties, parenting has only become more and more fun over the months. We accepted the Campus Host position in May 2018, and moved into residence only to have been greeted with the warmest of welcomes. When we moved to Ontario, we had no friends or family in the area, but now, we have a family of hundreds who have helped us make this place feel like home. We are excited to live into this intentional community, and to see what the next year has in store!
