In 2014, two different trips went out from Grebel, our annual MDS trip, and our second trip to spend time with the Southridge Community Church in St. Catharines, ON:

Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS)

MDS primarily works in communities working to recover from a natural disaster. This year, the group traveled to Staten Island, NYC to help clean up and rebuild after Hurricane Sandy.

Southridge Shelter, St. Catharines, ON

15 Grebelites spent the week learning from residents and volunteers at a homeless shelter in St. Catharines. Through participating in shelter activities like rock climbing, listening to many personal stories, and sharing the gift of their cleaning skills, the group had the opportunity to learn more about homelessness and the various factors that lead to an individual ending up on the street, and how one particular community is responding to this reality.
