Fire Pit Booking Procedure and Request

Please note: This form is for events associated with Grebel’s Student Council. It is not connected to public events or other fire pits on campus.

The Waterloo Fire Rescue, the City of Waterloo and the University of flamesWaterloo require advance notice of all fire pit bookings on campus. Booking requests for the Conrad Grebel fire pit must be received no less than 3 days in advance so this notification can be made on your behalf.   

Filling out this form is a fire pit REQUEST and DOES NOT guarantee a booking.

Please follow the regulations listed below from the Waterloo Fire Prevention Office.

  1. Responsible Persons shall:
    1. attest their competency, in written or electronic form, to knowledge of proper fire extinguishing procedures;
    2. supervise and control use of fire, sparks or embers as follows:
      1. no fires extending beyond 24 hours
      2. minimum extinguishing capabilities:
        1.  3 – pressurized water portable fire extinguishers (9.5 liters or 2.5 US gallons each),
        2. 3 – dry chemical portable fire extinguishers (class rating of 2A each), or
        3.  3 – 12 liters (3 US gallons) containers of water from lake/creek or equivalent. Get a pail from  Student Council office or Food Services
      3. fuel fire only with proper clean burning hardwoods. Non wood and toxic combustibles are not permitted,
      4.  fire’s dimension shall not exceed one meter in height and width,
      5. if environmental conditions have resulted in dry vegetation on the day of the burn, the surface area (containing vegetation) five meters from the fire in all directions shall be soaked with water prior to and after the fire is extinguished,
      6.  the extinguishment of the fire shall include pulling the burning material apart while soaking fire with water to ensure all embers, deep seated burning and hot spots are extinguished,
      7. behaviour around the fire shall be safe and respectful at all times which includes a prohibition on alcohol according uWaterloo Policy #21, Alcohol Use and Education; and

After your request has been approved, you will receive a confirmation email from the Conferences, Bookings and Events Coordinator.
