On November 10, 2011 the eve of Remembrance Day, Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (MSCU) and Conrad Grebel University College announced the creation of the Mennonite Savings and Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement at Conrad Grebel. MSCU’s $1 million dollar commitment has created the opportunity to add an entire fourth floor to the current building.
Since this time much has happened to shape the physical space and think about program ideas that will take place. A Centre for Peace Advancement Task Force, chaired by Dean Jim Pankratz brought a report to the Board of Governors this fall. This included a collection of feedback that was solicited from over 3 dozen people who are involved in peace research and advocacy.
Plans are in place for increased space for grad students in our MPACS and Theological Studies programs, there will be office space for some faculty members, a seminar room, space for Affiliate Peace organizations, and the Frank and Helen Epp Peace Incubator. This Peace Incubator will provide a space for individuals and organizations who need a space to hatch the next great idea for peace making. It will also be a place for visiting researchers, peace advocates and pastors to come and interact with others concerned about peace making.
