Research Areas

Industrial/Organizational Psychology

Researchers in the field of Industrial/Organizational Psychology (I/O Psychology) study human behaviour, thought, and emotion in the workplace to improve employees' performance and satisfaction in their work, to enhance employers' ability to select and promote the best people, and to generally make the workplace better for the men and women who work there. Research topics include equity, leadership, organizational culture, and personality in relation to work. Practitioners in this field draw on the field's theory, statistical/quantitative methods, consultation methods, and other knowledge to design employee surveys, training programs, personnel tests, organizational development interventions, and other products and services. Practitioners also manage and administer these services, as members of corporate and government human resource departments, as independent consultants, and in other professional roles.
