Fall 2006

Civil and Environmental Engineering

Research Areas

Geotechnical Engineering

The major areas of study include:

  • micromechanics
  • trenchless technologies
  • non-destructive testing of geo-materials

Current research activities include:

  • theoretical research into the mechanical behaviour of particulate materials
  • application of geomechanics in petroleum, mining and pavement engineering, numerical simulations, and micromechanics of soils
  • experimental and numerical research on soil-structure interaction; flow of multiple fluids through porous media; and trenchless technology
  • experimental and numerical work to obtain a fundamental understanding of wave propagation in geo-materials to improve and create new nondestructive testing techniques
