Computational Mathematics

Introduction

Graduate Student Financial Support

Full-time graduate students in the Faculty of Mathematics are supported in a number of ways. Canadians and permanent residents of Canada are eligible for a number of major awards. These include NSERC (Natural Science and Engineering Research Council) and OGS (Ontario Graduate Scholarship) postgraduate scholarships. The value of the former is currently $17,500 while the latter is currently $15,000 (both for 12 months). Students holding either scholarship also automatically receive an additional $10,000 President’s Graduate Scholarship from the University of Waterloo.

International students are required to pay higher tuition fees, however, this differential will be offset, in part, by the International Master's Student Award (IMSA) that is currently awarded to each incoming international Master’s student at the University of Waterloo. The IMSA is currently valued at $4,200 per year.

Students in the proposed program without scholarships will normally be supported with a $9000 teaching assistantship from the Faculty of Mathematics and an additional $5500 in the form of a research assistantship and/or internal scholarships.

The Keith and Debbie Geddes Graduate Scholarship in Computational Mathematics has been created specifically for graduate students in Computational Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. An endowed gift will fund one $5,000 scholarship each year.
