Master of Arts (MA)
 

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for students admitted to the MA program are as follows:

  • normally an Honours Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Psychology with at least a B overall standing (75%);
  • three letters of reference from academic sources;
  • official transcripts from all other post-secondary institutions;
  • completion of the Department of Psychology Application;
  • submit results from the Graduate Record Examination, (Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytic scores);
  • may choose to submit a statement a curriculum vitae;
  • provide proof of proficiency in English (if applicable); accepted examinations and required minimum scores for graduate studies are listed on the English Language Proficiency page.

Candidates for admission to a graduate program in Psychology who possess a general Bachelor's degree must take at least three preliminary terms of qualifying work in Psychology to ensure that their preparation is equivalent to that of a graduate of an Honours degree in Psychology. Candidates with an Honours Bachelor's degree or equivalent preparation may be admitted to a Master's program or directly to a PhD program.

The deadline for applications for admission is December 15 for Clinical and Social Psychology; for all other areas of Psychology, the deadline is January 15. Applications received after that date will be considered if further graduate appointments are available. Notice of acceptance will be sent by April 1.

Degree Requirements

The minimum requirements for the one-year Master's degree are satisfied when the candidates have successfully completed either:

  • Four two-term or eight one-term courses, accepted for graduate credit by the Department, plus the Master's Research Paper

or

  • Two two-term or four one-term courses accepted for graduate credit by the Department, plus the Master's Thesis.
