Procedures for remote comprehensive exams and thesis defences

All graduate defences under the Faculty of Health will be conducted via online video conferencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Our Health Computing IT specialists will be providing technical support for comprehensive exams and thesis defences occurring remotely through Cisco Webex. Students and faculty participating in the defences are recommended to review the following information on this page to ensure they are planned accordingly.

On this page, we will refer to comprehensive exam and thesis defence as "defence".

Summary of responsibilities

Health Computing IT specialist

  • Schedule defence meeting on Webex, send defence invitation to candidate, committee members, chair and other attendees.
  • Set up test video conference session with candidate, committee members, and chair prior to the defence on Webex.
    • Includes testing of audio, video, screen sharing, connection, etc.
  • Be on standby to provide technical support for the video conference component in defence meetings.

Attendees (e.g., candidate, committee members, chair)

  • Familiarize yourself with Webex if you have not used it before.
  • Confirm attendance for test video conference session with IT specialists.
  • Ensure you have all the equipment you need prior to joining the test and defence meetings.
  • Ensure your device and internet connection will transmit your voice and video quality clearly.
