DESCRIPTION:Dr. Nel Wieman is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the First
 \nNations Health Authority (FNHA) in British Columbia\, where she has\nwor
 ked for the past 8 years. She is Anishinaabe (Miishipaawitiik First\nNatio
 n\, Treaty 5 Territory) and lives\, works and plays on the unceded\nterrit
 ory of the Coast Salish peoples – the səl̓ílwətaʔɬ\n(Tsleil-Wautut
 h)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish)\, and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm\n(Musqueam) Nat
 ions. She completed her medical degree and psychiatry\nspecialty training 
 at McMaster University. Canada's first female\nIndigenous psychiatrist\, D
 r. Wieman has more than 30 years of clinical\nand senior leadership experi
 ence\, working with Indigenous (FN/M/I)\npeople both in-community and away
  from home. Dr. Wieman served as the\nPresident of the Indigenous Physicia
 ns Association of Canada (IPAC)\nfrom 2016 - 2022. Recently\, Dr. Wieman w
 as selected as a recipient of\nthe inaugural Dr. Barry Lavallee Indigenous
  Health Advocacy Award by\nIndigenous Physicians Association of Canada. Sh
 e is a recognized\npublic health leader and antiracism advocate in BC and 
 Canada.
