Faculty of Health Orientation Leader Positions

Front-Line Leader

  • Interact with first-year students on an individual or group basis
  • Participate in the faculty events with their assigned team
  • Assist first-year students in their transition to the University of Waterloo by answering pertinent questions to the best of their ability
  • Assist in the planning, organizing, and execution of the activity/event with the guidance of a Coordinator or Event Director

Head Leader

  • Act as a liaison between Federation Orientation Committee and other leaders
  • Work closely with fellow leaders when creating team cheers, logos, and flag
  • Motivate/support leaders, in addition to first-year students, during Orientation Week

Volunteer Co-ordinator (2 openings)

The Volunteer Co-ordinator (VC) positions will be a very important position to the success of the Faculty of Health Orientation Week.  They will be the FOC’s right hand people! The VCs will be working tirelessly for 8 months leading up to Orientation Week, with the FOC, on different administrative tasks.  The VCs duties will include but are not limited to; arranging leader fees, ordering leader swag, registration for leader retreats, and making sure leaders have first aid, just to name a few.  During Orientation Week they will serve as the leaders coordinating the Outback Shack, including shift scheduling, Ask Me training, and shack set up.  They will be the leader who knows everything and will serve as a leader liaison, answering minor questions, and assisting where needed.  This position will not be assigned to a first year student team. 

Food Co-ordinator (2 openings)

The Food Co-ordinators (FCs ) will have a delicious position! They will be in charge (with FOC) of everything to do with food throughout Orientation Week.  This includes all meals/snacks/drinks for each event.  The FCs duties will include, keeping track of dietary restrictions, food purchasing, set-up, hygienic distribution, and work closely with FOC to finalize food-related Risk Management Forms.  When not co-ordinating food events, they will assist other event co-ordinators as part of the Faculty of Health Events Crew.  These positions will not be assigned to a first year student group, but will interact with the first years in the form of event facilitators during events. They will also be Ask Me trained and cover at least 2 Outback Shack shifts.  

Check-in Co-ordinator (2 openings)

The Check-in Co-ordinators (CICs) will be responsible for everything to do with central check-in.  The CICs will play a major role in making the first impression of the Faculty of Health, for students and their families, a fantastic one!! The CICs duties will include, acquiring all required equipment, ensuring proper set-up for Sunday and Monday, and training registration team before first years arrive overseeing assembly of registration kits.  When not co-ordinating Check-in, they will assist other event co-ordinators in facilitating events, as part of the Faculty of Health Events Crew.  These positions will not be assigned to a first year student group, but will interact with the first years in the form of activity facilitators during events. They will also be Ask Me trained and cover at least 2 Outback Shack shifts.  

PULSE Co-ordinator (2 openings)

The PULSE Co-ordinators (PCs) have the responsibility of oversee the PULSE event.  The PCs specific duties will include logistical planning, facility booking, leader coordination, activity design, set-up, clean-up, and transportation coordination for the event.  They will also oversee all prep work involved in running a successful event.  When not co-ordinating PULSE activities, they will assist other event co-ordinators as part of the Faculty of Health Events Crew.  These positions will not be assigned to a first year student group, but will interact with the first years in the form of activity facilitators during events. They will also be Ask Me trained and cover at least 2 Outback Shack shifts.

Olympics Co-ordinator (2 openings)

The Olympics Co-ordinators (OCs) have the responsibility of overseeing the Olympics event.  The OCs specific duties will include logistical planning, facility booking, leader coordination, activity design, set-up, clean-up, and for the event.  They will also oversee all prep work involved in running a successful event.  When not co-ordinating Olympics activities, they will assist other event co-ordinators as part of the Faculty of Health Events Crew.  These positions will not be assigned to a first year student group, but will interact with the first years in the form of activity facilitators during events. They will also be Ask Me trained and cover at least 2 Outback Shack shifts. 

Amazing Race Co-ordinator (2 openings)

The Amazing Race Co-ordinators (ARCs) have the responsibility of oversee the Amazing Race event, which will happen on the Tuesday of Orientation Week.  The OCs specific duties will include logistical planning, facility booking, leader coordination, activity design, set-up, clean-up, and for the event.  They will also oversee all prep work involved in running a successful event.  When not co-ordinating the Amazing Race activities, they will assist other event co-ordinators as part of the Faculty of Health Events Crew.  These positions will not be assigned to a first year student group, but will interact with the first years in the form of activity facilitators during events. They will also be Ask Me trained and cover at least 2 Outback Shack shifts. 

Media Director (1 opening)

The Media Director (MD) will have a very important position.  It will be their job to capture the spirit of the Faculty of Health Orientation Week through pictures and videos, as well as creating excitement about Orientation Events amongst the first years and leaders through social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter.  The MD will also be responsible fot creating the end of the week video to be shown Friday night of Orientation Week.  They will also give event Audio Video (AV) set-up assistance, as needed.  The MD will oversee a committee of 3 other media leaders. This position will not be assigned to a first year student group.
