John Lohuis

Former CEO and GM, Niagara Parks Commission

John graduated from the Faculty in Recreation Administration (’76) in the co-op program and later obtained an MBA (’86) from the University of Windsor. He has a very diverse career in both private and public sectors that include Ministries of Correctional Services, Health and Natural Resources. In the private sector, he worked for a landscape company as well as a private consultant in recreation master planning.

 John was in leadership positions as Director and Commissioner at Delhi, Windsor, Aurora, London and Mississauga, and was most recently the CEO/GM of Niagara Parks Commission from 2012 to 2016.  Prior to that, he was a consultant in Master Plans for municipalities and taught at the University of Waterloo as an adjunct lecturer.  

John and his wife Mary now live at Tillsonburg, Ontario and is still active in promoting parks issues within CPRA and as a Board member of the Leisure Information Network. John is also a Board member of the Niagara Sports Commission where he is busy with a bid for the Canada Summer Games for Niagara.
