Senior Clinical Orthotist, Ron Joyce Children's Health Centre

Laurie's clinical role is to provide orthotic treatment to patients with a variety of disabling physical conditions of the upper and lower extremities as well as spine and cranium. Laurie assesses the physical, lifestyle and vocational needs of patients and their patient goals, creates treatment plans, designs an appropriate orthosis, directs fabrication of the orthotic devices, fits the orthoses and provides follow up care for inpatient and outpatients of Hamilton Health Sciences and surrounding region. Laurie is also responsible for advising and guiding orthotic residents and students. Following graduation, she worked at Northern Telecom in the Ergonomics and Fitness department. In the fall of 1990, Laurie entered George Brown College, Clinical Methods in Prosthetics and Orthotics Program. Upon graduation, she worked in two private orthotic facilities before committing to a full-time internship at the Hospital for Sick Children. In 1993, Laurie started at Chedoke-McMaster Hospitals Prosthetic-Orthotic Department (now the Ron Joyce Children’s Hospital of Hamilton Health Sciences) and celebrated her 26-year work anniversary this past summer.
