Why is it important to you to be a HeForShe Campus Advocate?
As a student leader on campus, I love inspiring and motivating other students to reach their potential. It has been an ongoing goal for me to ensure that all students have a positive experience in our school community and an equal opportunity, regardless of gender, to pursue their goals.
Charly Phillips is a 2B Biomedical Engineering student. I joined HeForShe because it involves all of humanity in the journey towards gender equality. Too often, feminism has become associated with “man-hating”, and it is high time that it is recognized as a movement that advocates equal rights and opportunities for all genders. It is my goal to empower everyone to become a more complete version of themselves, without societal expectations related to gender standing in the way.
Chloe is a third year Global Business and Digital Arts student who's passionate in combining design and social advocacy to serve for the greater good. She integrates her love for design to develop marketing campaigns for HeForShe to increase the organization's exposure on campus. She's also a big fan of burritos.
As a graduate student in psychology, my research and my passion revolves around fairness. Historically, gender has been the basis of various forms of unfairness. HeForShe is about breaking down gender barriers so that women and men have equal opportunities to succeed in whatever they desire.
Jasmine Kaur Bhinder is a second year Arts and Business Student, majoring in Legal Studies. Jasmine is passionate about advocating for social causes and has been engaged in organizations in organizations to make a difference throughout her student career. She plans to use HeForShe as a foundation to work with others to create change starting from the University of Waterloo. She believes working with HeForShe, as an organization they can help create the change that is needed.
HeforShe is a catalyst for the change that the society needs in terms of gender equity. The success of the campaign relies on all genders; we need to truly work together as a team to overcome so many issues that still exist in our world. HeforShe is great because it strives to involve men and educate men on how they can be part of this change. The situation has been improved because of campaigns like HeforShe, but we still have a long way to go. I am very proud to stand with HeforShe and its work to empower women and girls in all aspects.
HeForShe is built on the ideas of unity and freedom: unity between women and men in creating a gender-equal world and freedom for each of us to live to our potential, beyond the mystical obligation to conform to gender norms. It’s important for me to be a HFS advocate because I believe these fundamental ideas that the campaign promotes can play a critical role in the academic, professional, and personal development of students at UWaterloo.
The HeforShe Campaign is about pursuing gender equity and providing a fair environment for everyone around the world. As a student in AFM, it is important for me to be a HFS advocate because I believe everyone no matter which gender we are, we deserve the same opportunity to pursue our goals and dreams on campus.
I have seen the hardships and challenge the women face in two parts of the world, in third world countries and in North America. I have spent many years in both areas of the world, and thus can speak from experience that women need to be empowered in all aspects of life.
The HeForShe campaign strives for gender equity which is something I believe in. Gender Equity means that I will have the opportunity to succeed in a manner that is viable to me, as a person, as a woman. It is important that this movement continue and make a difference to allow women to succeed in all facets of society.
Some people from the elder generation in China still think that, girls do not need to accept education, since they would finally marry to men and stay home. I do not agree, and I am so glad that my parents brought me up as a student to learn the world. We are taking effort to let more girls understand this and believe in their values.

My name is Yolanda Fang. I am a second-year environmental engineering student at the University of Waterloo. I am very glad for the opportunity to join the He for She family and contribute myself to promoting gender equality. Raising people’s awareness to the unequal treatment of women in different fields and making women’s voices heard have been what we are striving to achieve.
