The Pay Equity Office’s Gender Wage Gap Grant Program (GWGGP) launched on April 11, 2017.
The program seeks proposals that may include: actions or research exploring gender wage gap and pay equity issues for members of racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants and youth; or actions or research exploring compensation issues and gender inequality in Ontario’s emerging workplace conditions.
As part of the commitment to the UN Women’s HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 initiative, the University of Waterloo presents the HeForShe writing contest to take place each fall.
Through poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction, we welcome our community's reflections on the challenges they have faced, but also their hopes, dreams, and directions for the future.
As part of our commitment to the HeForShe IMPACT initiative, the University of Waterloo will provide six scholarships, valued at up to $12,000 each over four years, to outstanding female students admitted to Year One of an undergraduate science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degree program in which females are currently underrepresented. Recipients will receive $1,500 per academic term for up to eight terms. Continuance of the scholarship beyond Year One is dependent on the student maintaining an 80% overall average and continued enrolment in an eligible STEM program.
Secondary school data (2004-2009) identifies the rate of First Nation graduation at approximately 36% compared to the Canadian graduation rate of 72%. This camp, a partnership between the Waterloo Indigenous Students Centre, Engineering Science Quest (ESQ), the HeForShe IMPACT 10X10X10 Framework, and sponsored by De Beers Canada aims to address the Indigenous education gap in Canada. The goal of this camp is to increase Indigenous female student participation in STEM experiences and academic careers to build the pipeline of future female leaders in traditionally male dominated disciplines.
Each December, the University of Waterloo invites 80-100 girls in grades seven and eight to explore the physical sciences at a free event on campus. They will attend two engaging talks:opening keynote speakers advocating for the importance of physics education and relevance to real life; and, a closing panel of current Physics students who will answer questions posed to them by the participants.
EQUALs is a venue for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and young scholars considering an academic career. The purpose of this conference is to explore the spectrum of pathways of academic success with an explicit focus on gender equity and its intersections with other identity markers.
