In honour of Father Hugh MacKinnon, the History Society presents the 36th Annual MacKinnon dinner.
Beyond Jack the Ripper: East End Lives
The mystery of who killed at least five women in the Whitechapel neighborhood of London in 1888 fascinates true crime lovers to an almost unparalleled degree. Yet to historians, what is most fascinating about the “Ripper” murders is not the unknowable killer, but rather what these murders can tell us about the society at the time. This talk will focus on the women themselves, and how they exemplified lives lived on the edge of desperation in the East End of London.
Please join the History Society for this year’s MacKinnon Dinner with special guest speaker, Dr. Amy Milne-Smith from Wilfrid Laurier University. The dinner will take place on March 7th at Charcoal Steakhouse.
Dress: Semi-formal
Tickets can be purchased in advance at HH 136 between 9 and 4, or at the door.
