Change to Public Holiday Pay Formula – effective January 1, 2018

As a result of Ontario’s Bill 148, the formula for the calculation of public holiday pay in the Employment Standards Act (ESA) will be amended effective January 1, 2018, as follows:

Minimum Wage Changes – effective January 1, 2018

The minimum wage rates in Ontario are increasing effective January 1, 2018, as summarized in the following table:

General Minimum Wage – applies to most employees

$11.60 per hour

$14.00 per hour

Student Minimum Wage – applies to students under the age of 18 who work 28 hours a week or less when school is in session, or work during a school break or summer holidays

$10.90 per hour

$13.15 per hour

Liquor Servers Minimum Wage – applies to employees who serve liquor directly to customers or guests in licensed premises as a regular part of their work

OHIP+ : Children and Youth Pharmacare Program

As you may already be aware, starting January 1, 2018, more than 4,400 drug products will be free for anyone age 24 years or younger. Our Insurer, Great -West Life, has provided a news update in light of this upcoming Provincial Legislative Change.

Timelines for completion of performance evaluation process

2018 Key Dates to Remember:

January to February Staff and Managers start to meet to discuss performance and review the performance appraisal form.
AS SOON AS COMPLETED Managers submit final and signed, hard copy performance appraisal forms to Human Resources*
MARCH 9 Recommended final date for completion of 2017 performance appraisal form and discussions.
MARCH 16 Final date for performance appraisal forms to be submitted to Human Resources.*
