Sponsored by the Equity Office, the Making Spaces program is a framework for creating affirming spaces for LGBTQ2+ people on campus and fostering interpersonal relationships through education and training.
This program was developed and is led by campus community members with lived experience and consists of an educational workshop (2.5 hours) and a registration event/opportunity to learn more about becoming a Space Maker (1 hour).
Participants can expect:
- Information about gender identity/expression, sexual identity, homophobia, heterosexism, bi-phobia, transphobia, and intersecting identities.
- Practical recommendations and support in becoming an effective ally
- A panel with folks who have lived experience
- An optional opportunity to become a Space Maker; and make a commitment to create safe and inclusive spaces for LGBTQ2+ peoples on campus. Those who become Space Makers will receive a visual identifier to display, that indicates they completed the program and communicate that they are LGBTQ2+ affirming.
UWaterloo Students, staff and faculty are all welcome. We especially encourage the participation of people who provide services to students, staff and faculty at the University of Waterloo.
