Equity is a shared responsibility. Given each of our intersecting identities, we all need to engage in work to unpack our privilege(s) and develop our understanding, skills and knowledge.
These resources are designed to assist you in your ongoing journey as an ally on campus and include practical tools to help you embed equity in your work.
As allies, each of us plays a role in making spaces safe and welcoming for all. Use this resource (pdf) to build capacity and be better prepared to intervene if safe to do so when you witness micro or macro aggressions.
This how-to guide is a reference tool for those who host and participate in meetings, whether virtually or in person. It provides suggested processes and resources to plan and host or chair inclusive meetings, and then follow up with participants after the meeting using methods that ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all.
Download the full How-To Guide (pdf), or the Quick Checklist (pdf).
Consider religious and spiritual days of observances if you are organizing events, academic deadlines, or other important dates.
This is a quick resource (pdf) for teaching assistants, or anyone who would like some introductory resources in how to create an inclusive classroom culture.
This campus map shows the current building location, and this table (pdf) indicates where single stall, accessible and barrier free washrooms are located across campus.
The Equitable Recruitment and Selection Toolkit (PDF) is designed to assist commitees and managers with embedding principles of equity in their hiring processes.
Please also consider taking our Equitable Recruitment and Selection training, or email equity@uwaterloo.ca for assistance with embedding equity in your hiring, recruitment and/or selection processes.
This online module is available anytime and focuses on the faculty hiring process and promotes best practices for recruitment and selection to ensure that the committee reaches an unbiased and fair decision. The module is required for all CRC and CERC-level hires and is strongly recommended for all faculty hires, regardless of position.
This resource (pdf) will help you complete the equity section in your self-study report. It is also a useful tool for incorporating equitable strategies and processes in your department/program.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
