Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada 2019 ConferenceThe University of Waterloo, Conestoga College and Wilfrid Laurier University are proud to host the 2019 Senior Women's Academic Administrators of Canada (SWAAC) Conference in Waterloo Region! The 2019 conference will explore the importance of allyship in the institution.

History of SWAAC

SWAAC was founded in 1987 to provide a forum and a collective voice for those who identify as women in senior administrative ranks in Canadian universities, colleges, and technical institutes.

The primary purpose of SWAAC is to create a safe space to engage and reflect on leadership issues and opportunities facing individuals who identify as women.

Aspiring female academics and women in senior leadership positions will come together to develop and enhance their leadership capabilities, offer mentorship to future leaders, and more importantly, find time to connect with each other.

Making Brave Spaces: The Importance of Allyship in the Institution

Making space is a term used within equity work to reflect the intentional effort and attention needed to be inclusive. It is also a broad term that works across various identity markers of groups that need to be intentionally included. Thus, making spaces reflects the need for continuous examination and effort to create inclusive environments across various groups.
