Making spaces: becoming space makers
Sponsored by the Equity Office, the Making Spaces program is a framework for creating affirming spaces on campus and fostering interpersonal relationships through education and training on aspects of social identity. UWaterloo community members partake in training and a registration process to become Space Makers, ambassadors of equity.
This program consists of an education workshop (2.5 hours) and registration event (1 hour) where participants learn more about gender identity/expression, sexual identity, homophobia, heterosexism, bi-phobia, transphobia and how these intersect with other identities.
Participants will also receive:
- practical recommendations and support to enable them be an ally for social equality and equity
- an opportunity to sign a statement of affirmation indicating their status as Space Makers, if they wish to
- visual identifiers to display that honour their completion of the program and communicate that they wish to be identified as Space Makers who are LGBTTQQIPA+ affirming
We especially encourage the participation of people who provide services to students, staff and faculty at the University of Waterloo.
