When you begin studying in the Bachelor of Independent Studies program, you enter what we call the “pre-thesis phase,” for which you have some specific course requirements and term-by-term reporting to fulfil. You will find all the forms and guidelines you need on the Pre-thesis page.
The capstone to your Bachelor of Independent Studies program is the “thesis phase,” which will typically take an entire academic year for people studying full-time. Your needs and term-by-term reporting change during this phase; you will find all the forms and guidelines you need at Thesis phase forms.
UWaterloo students in other degree programs are welcome to take one or more courses in Independent Studies as electives. For more information, visit the IS Electives page.
