Community Engagement Working Group

Chair, Lori Campbell Director of Indigenous Initiatives & Director  of Waterloo Aboriginal Education Centre (WAEC)

Our Working Group’s purpose is to identify recommendations that will support the University of Waterloo in successfully developing an Indigenization Strategy which incorporates outreach and engagement with Indigenous communities in the spirit of reconciliation. Building meaningful relationships is a task that involves trust building, and it  requires a sustained commitment to engagement and relationship building.

Being mindful of the Indigenous principal of reciprocity, our goal is to focus on ways to identify and connect with Indigenous communities both within and beyond our region to recommend supports, actions, and opportunities that will contribute to ongoing, meaningful, and mutually beneficial relationships.  We recognize that a thorough and thoughtful process has the potential to provide recommendations that result in true transformation, a new way of being, that can allow for reciprocally beneficial relationships for the University of Waterloo and Indigenous peoples.
