SUMMARY:Indigenous Entrepreneurship Diploma Lunch and Learn
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples is widely considered to
be one\nof Canada’s most pressing social justice issues. A major piece i
n\nthe reconciliation agenda is the pursuit of “economic\nreconciliation
.” This means giving Indigenous peoples – who\ntraditionally had highl
y developed commercial practices and networks\n– the opportunity to take
control over their own economic\ndevelopment and destiny. Education\, spe
cifically in business and\nentrepreneurship\, will be a key prerequisite i
 n the quest for economic\nreconciliation. \n\n \n\nThe Indigenous Entrepr
eneurship diploma features courses taught by\nIndigenous instructors and s
upports students with an incubator and a\ncommunity of mentors with deeply
held expertise in entrepreneurship\,\nsocial innovation and community ser
vice learning. The curriculum is\nbased on case studies drawn from Indigen
ous businesses and includes\ntechnical content unique to Indigenous entrep
reneurs\, such as joint\nventures\, procurement policies\, Indigenous econ
omic development\ncorporations\, and tax and governance issues.
