UWaterloo Scholar is a new WCMS service that provides dynamic and customizable personal websites for researcher and faculty. Based on OpenScholar, a Drupal distribution maintained by Harvard,  UW Scholar’s development has been driven by client requests and feedback to allow researchers at the university to self-create a beautiful website in seconds. This presentation will cover the project plan, benefits, and features, as well as a demo and plans for future development.

Andrew McAlorum is the Manager, Web Development and Support in IST. He provides direction of the University’s WCMS, Portal, open data initiatives, and related projects.

Eric Bremner is a Web Developer for the WCMS team within IST and the lead developer for UW Scholar.

Check out the new digs! Professional Development (PD) moved to larger facilities in EC3 back in September and now features 3 training rooms, a client lounge, and 3 breakout rooms. This session will be held on-site in Training Room A (EC3-1101) and you will have the opportunity to tour the facility as part of the session.

PD offers a wide variety of non-credit courses designed for working professionals in many popular areas including project management, business analysis, leadership, and business communications. Face-to-face courses are conveniently located in EC3 and most staff receive a 50% discount on these courses!

Dean will discuss the certificates offered, highlight specific courses that may be helpful, outline the differences between the PMP® designation and project management certificates offered by PD, and review the eligibility criteria for the 50% discount for face-to-face courses.

Mike will discuss the selection process and evolution of the email security gateway for Exchange users on campus.

His talk will span reasons for its purchase in the first place up to deployment and a whole week and a half beyond.

The University is in the process of implementing a centralized e-commerce solution to address current gaps in our e-commerce capabilities.

In this seminar, Jonathan and Daryl will talk about lessons learned during the pilot phase and outline the implementation plan.
