Passwords are dead. Long live strong authentication!
The continued use of the static password in maintaining the integrity of our digital lives is turning out to be an abysmal failure. Passwords are forgotten, phished, improperly stored and disclosed, guessed, cracked, re-played and re-used. In this talk, Jason will describe the methodologies used to understand the magnitude of the problem at Waterloo (leveraging a public database of over 500 million compromised passwords) and the measures we can all take to improve the situation.
Jason Testart is Director of Information Security Services at the University of Waterloo. This is his 12th year in IST after serving five years with the Computer Science Computing Facility. Jason is a UW Math Grad and continues to be happily married after 18.5 years. When not in the office, Jason spends his time volunteering; and living through all of the challenges of raising two teenagers.
