What is happening? Migration of WCMS production (live) sites to their own dedicated database structure will begin Sunday, July 23. Point of Contacts (POCs) will be notified prior to their site(s) being migrated.
Why is this happening? IST is working to improve the stability of the databases that serve the WCMS.
When is this happening? Between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., beginning Sunday, July 23 and continuing on additional nights until all sites are migrated (approximately two weeks).
What is happening? Changes are being made to email flow to allow email to go directly from ProofPoint to the 2016 Exchange environment. Email had previously flowed from ProofPoint to the 2010 Exchange environment before going to the 2016 Exchange environment.
When is this happening? Monday, July 17, 11:00 a.m.
What is happening? As part of the regular maintenance of IST services, updates will be applied to SharePoint servers. These updates will impact both mySharePoint.uwaterloo.ca and SharePoint.uwaterloo.ca services.
When is this happening? Wednesday, July 19 from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 20.
What is happening? The storage for uploaded files for the WCMS is being migrated.
When is this happening? Friday, July 7 between 6:00 p.m. and midnight.
What is the impact? Site availability will not be impacted. There may be a brief window where uploaded files and images are unavailable (estimated at 3 seconds). Although uploading should not be affected, for maximum safety we do suggest you refrain from uploading files and images during the migration window.
Later this year IST will be starting an upgrade of the campus network Ethernet switching and routing infrastructure. This will be the first upgrade of this equipment since IST assumed responsibility for campus wide network management, in 2011. Much of the switching and routing equipment is approaching 10 years old. As with the campus WiFi upgrade a few years ago, all equipment for the switch upgrade will be centrally funded, and IST staff will perform all of the work involved, coordinating with faculty/departmental IT staff and others as needed. Infrastructure improvements will be implemented soon to improve database stability. Pilot sites have already been migrated to the new database structure. Notifications will go out as database restructuring affects sites; beginning soon. For production sites, we are going to be recommending that you disable forms on your sites and refrain from making edits, as we will be copying databases and upgrading before switching in order to limit downtime to a fraction of a second.
