Downtime for some Information Systems & Technology services and campus applications on Tuesday December 28

Due to system upgrading of storage devices, many Information Systems & Technology (IST) services and campus applications may be unavailable during the outage on Tuesday December 28th from 8am to 5pm. Included are Quest, University of Waterloo ANGEL Course Environment, HRinfo, and file storage (N, R, T drives). Email may be delayed or access to your mailbox may be slow during this period.

Information Systems & Technology services before and during the holiday break

The university is closed from December 24th to January 3rd.

Before the closure, the Computing Help and Information Place (CHIP) services will maintain regular hours except for the following early closures: Wednesday, Dec 22nd and Thursday, Dec 23rd, closing at 3:00pm. CHIP services include equipment loans, software distribution, media resources, exam scanning and Helpdesk services.

SharePoint update is coming on Monday December 20, 6am-10:15am

The time has come for an update to SharePoint, an online service that’s used by more than 300 groups in various parts of the university.

The best known example is that SharePoint is used to host the course notes for the Skills in the Electronic Workplace courses,

says Stephen Markan of Information Systems and Technology.

Markan announced yesterday that “the long awaited SharePoint update”, from the Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) version to SharePoint Foundation 2010, will take place on December 20.

Hello Exchange Calendar, good-bye Bookit

The University of Waterloo’s electronic calendaring system transitioned from Bookit (Oracle Calendar) to Microsoft Exchange over the weekend of December 10-13. The Oracle Calendar product was discontinued by Oracle and had to be replaced.
