Problem with Firefox 30 for OSX and SharePoint (IIS Authetication fails)

What is happening? Apple computers (OSX) running Firefox 30 cannot connect to SharePoint sites (https://sharepoint.uwaterloo.ca/sites/<YourSite>)

Firefox (30.0) for Mac displays an error message "401 UNAUTHORIZED" when trying to go to any SharePoint site - the authentication prompt is never displayed.


What has changed? The developers (Mozilla) of Firefox have dropped support for an older authentication protocol that Microsoft IIS based services may allow for authentication called NTLMv1.

Lync server maintenance – June 26

What is being done? The Lync communications system requires Windows Updates and a Symantec update to be completed on the core servers.

Why is it being done? To install the latest Windows Updates and Symantec client for general maintenance.

When is it being done? The night of June 25 from 10pm until 2am on June 26.

SharePoint issues - June 23 (resolved)

UPDATE 1:54 pm June 23

Several web services were in a suspended state. Services have been restarted and are functioning properly.


Some people will be able to connect and others may have connection issues. We are working on the problem, and things should be back to normal shortly.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) maintenance - June 24

What is happening? IST will be performing maintenance on the BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) servers that provide email and calendar synchronization services to BlackBerry mobile devices on Connect.

Why is this happening? This is routine maintenance for our BES servers ensures our systems are up-to date.

When is this happening?  Tuesday, June 24 - 10:00 pm to 12:00 midnight

SharePoint downtime on June 23 & 24

What is happening? Microsoft patches are being applied to all the SharePoint servers.  

When is this happening? Monday, June 23, 6:30 pm – 12 midnight, and Tuesday, June 24, 6:30 pm – 12 midnight. Because the patches must be applied to each server in the SharePoint service the patching cycle will take some time to complete. The servers will need to reboot to complete the update process.

What is the impact to SharePoint users? SharePoint will be unavailable during the maintenance windows.
