Website configuration change enforcing HTTPS-only - October 24

What is happening? We are now enforcing HTTPS-only on uwaterloo.ca with a few exceptions for legacy content (such as the older CLF files).

When is this happening? This change has been implemented, October 24 at approximately 1:30 pm

Why is this happening? The use of both HTTP and HTTPS is confusing for users; can cause duplicate entries on search engines; and may be causing intermittent ‘Too many redirects’ errors on WCMS sites.

Resolved at 12:50 pm.  The outage lasted for approximately 15 minutes and from what I understand it was caused by a configuration change on the server.

IST is aware of issues with the UW homepage and WCMS websites. Our technical staff are investigating.

We will keep you updated as information becomes available.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

SharePoint Service – October 22

This is an advisory about a series of brief service outages that may present minor delays in using SharePoint. Most people will not notice, and there is very slight chance that data may not save to SharePoint as the changes are made. Please advise anyone who may be working on SharePoint during this event.

What is happening? There will be some minor service changes on Wednesday October 22  to prepare for future updates and changes in the SharePoint infrastructure. These changes will place various databases offline briefly as services are stopped and restarted.
