Campus Network upgrade

Later this year IST will be starting an upgrade of the campus network Ethernet switching and routing infrastructure.  This will be the first upgrade of this equipment since IST assumed responsibility for campus wide network management, in 2011.  Much of the switching and routing equipment is approaching 10 years old.  As with the campus WiFi upgrade a few years ago, all equipment for the switch upgrade will be centrally funded, and IST staff will perform all of the work involved, coordinating with faculty/departmental IT staff and others as needed.   IST will provide regular updates on the

Infrastructure changes affecting WCMS sites

Infrastructure improvements will be implemented soon to improve database stability. Pilot sites have already been migrated to the new database structure. Notifications will go out as database restructuring affects sites; beginning soon. For production sites, we are going to be recommending that you disable forms on your sites and refrain from making edits, as we will be copying databases and upgrading before switching  in order to limit downtime to a fraction of a second.

WCMS pilot sites database migration – June 22

What is happening? All WCMS pilot sites will be migrated to a new database structure.

Why is this happening? IST is working to improve the stability of the databases that serve the WCMS. 

When is this happening? Thursday, June 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23.

Note: Additional upgrades will be performed throughout the next few weeks. Notice will be sent prior to the migration of production sites, which will contain additional instructions.

iCIMS maintenance - June 24

The University's staff recruiting platform (iCIMS) will be unavailable on Saturday June 24 from 5:00 to 9:00 a.m. for scheduled maintenance.

Email security alert - June 19

What is happening? The IST security team has been made aware of a phishing attempt on uwaterloo.ca email accounts. If you receive an email that asks you to verify and renew your account i, please do not click on any links or open attachments and delete the email. Contact soc@uwaterloo.ca if you have opened the attachment or followed any links that may have been in the email. IST is investigating to determine a way to prevent further emails from reaching users.
