A large number of spam messages have been redirected from Connect to off-campus email addresses. These messages have been flagged/reported as spam by the external email servers (rightly so). However, this resulted in one of the Connect/Exchange email servers being temporarily blacklisted by SpamCop.
A new rule has been put in place on the Connect email servers that prevents any message with the Spam Assassin tag “*****SPAM*****” in the subject line from being sent to non-Connect user accounts. This should reduce the risk of the Connect email servers being blacklisted.
However, for those on Connect, it does mean that if you have legitimate email flagged with *****SPAM***** in the subject and you wish to forward it to someone else, you need to remove the *****SPAM***** from the message subject in order for the message to be delivered. This is probably a good practice anyway but is now required to ensure delivery.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns with these new settings.
