Lynda.com upgrading to LinkedIn Learning – July 29

Update (July 29): Users may be receiving LinkedIn Learning account activation emails during the content migration process. Neither platform will be accessible until after the July 29 migration is complete. Clicking on the activation link prior to migration completion will lead to an authentication error.

What is happening? Lynda.com is upgrading to LinkedIn Learning.  

When is this happening? Monday, July 29.  

  • Lynda.com will continue to be available until July 28. 

  • Both Lynda.com and LinkedIn Learning will be unavailable on July 29 as content is migrated.

What is the impact? University of Waterloo employees and students will continue to receive free, anytime access to learning resources, now offered through an improved LinkedIn Learning interface.  

I have a UWaterloo Lynda.com account 

  • You will receive an email from Lynda.com approximately two days before the upgrade date with details about the migration. 

  • After the successful migration, you will receive an account activation email from LinkedIn Learning. 

  • During this activation process, you will have the option of connecting your LinkedIn account (if you have one) to your LinkedIn Learning account (this can also be completed at a later date, if desired). Learn more about connecting your accounts

  • Note, you do not need to connect your LinkedIn account with your LinkedIn Learning account to share training achievements/certificates to your profile. 

  • Your training history will be automatically migrated to the new LinkedIn Learning platform. 

  • If you do not activate your new account, you will receive activation reminder emails 7, 14, and 30 days after the migration date. 

  • If you do not activate your account by March 21, 2020, your Lynda.com training history will be deleted. 

I do not have a UWaterloo Lynda.com account 

  • No problem. A UWaterloo-specific LinkedIn Learning activation link will be shared after the migration is complete.  

What do users need to do? Keep an eye on your inbox for messages from Lynda.com and LinkedIn Learning. Or, look for the Waterloo-specific LinkedIn Learning activation link (after July 29) to create an account.
