Mattermost site license expiring - September 17

REMINDER (Sept 12): The site license for Mattermost expires on Tuesday, September 17 and will not be renewed.
 
What if Mattermost is a requirement of my job? IST will maintain a small number of licenses for use for another 12 months. Requests to retain a license must be submitted via Request Tracker (RT), https://rt.uwaterloo.ca/SelfService/Forms/IST-General/.
 
Preparing for this change: The following changes will be made to existing Mattermost accounts:  
  • The Mattermost self-registration feature will be disabled.
  • User accounts that meet any of the following criteria below will be removed. There may be a second review of accounts in the future if the number of user accounts exceeds the license limit; a follow-up communication will be sent out in this case.
    • The account is already marked as “inactive” within Mattermost.
    • The account is not a member of any team (i.e. Individual signed up for a Mattermost account, but did not join any channels).
    • The account has not been active in the past 120 days.
Note: This work will not impact groups/individuals who have already submitted a request to maintain access.
 
When is this happening? Account removal will begin on Friday, September 13 and continue on Monday, September 16.
 
Looking for an alternative to Mattermost? Members of the University community are encouraged to use the robust and fully supported suite of tools provided through Microsoft Office 365, specifically, Microsoft Teams, which offers an excellent solution for communication and collaboration needs, https://uwaterloo.ca/microsoft-teams.

What is happening? The site license for Mattermost expires on Tuesday, September 17 and will not be renewed. 
 
What is the impact? Members of the University community are encouraged to use the robust and fully supported suite of tools provided through Microsoft Office 365, specifically, Microsoft Teams, which offers an excellent solution for communication and collaboration needs.
Why is this happening? IST has seen a decline in the number of Mattermost users since launching Office 365 and Teams. We are also working to standardize Office 365 across campus to provide the community with a consistent toolset, and avoid supporting multiple platforms that offer similar services, where possible.
 
What if Mattermost is a requirement of my job? IST may plan to renew a limited number of individual licenses for these individuals/groups. Please inform IST of this need via Request Tracker (RT), https://rt.uwaterloo.ca/SelfService/Forms/IST-General/.
