What is happening? As new buildings are occupied, the standard telephone offering in these new buildings will be Skype for Business (instead of Avaya Voice over IP phones).
When is this happening? Starting in January 2017.
Accessing Skype for Business: Skype for Business can be accessed on Windows workstations through the installation of Office 2013 or higher as well as Macintosh PCs with the Lync 2011 client (2016 client coming soon). The application will open automatically and sign in when the user logs on to their workstation with their NEXUS account. If not, they can contact their local IT service desk for assistance launching the app. IP desksets are also available for users who prefer the physical phone experience or do not have a PC that has a supported Skype for Business client (ie: *nix).
About Skype for Business: Skype for Business 2015 is an enterprise unified communications tool that provides services such as Instant Messaging, presence, online collaboration, desktop sharing, and voice and video communication.
Features included in Skype for Business:
- Skype for Business headset or deskset to contact users by extension or phone number
- Instant Messaging with other Skype for Business users
- Voice and video conferencing with other Skype for Business users or invite non-Skype for Business users to join via a web browser
- Federation with other Skype for Business customers and the Skype Consumer environment
