Update 8:45am: Issue with Exchange email and other services

What is happening? Scheduled maintenance of the Exchange (Connect email and calendar services) server to restore the service to the configuration prior to the October 30 outage.

When is this happening? November 12 between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m.

How does this impact me? Users connected to Exchange during the maintenance window may be prompted to re-connect by entering their username and password.

3:00 p.m. update: IST is devising a plan for moving affected services back to the load balancers and will inform clients as services are fully restored.


3:00 p.m. update: JobMine will be temporarily offline from 4:00 - 4:30 p.m. today (October 31) in an effort to restore service.

1:15 p.m. update: Email being sent and received via Exchange (Connect) that may have been delayed as a result of yesterday’s service issue should now be caught up.

If you are still experiencing issues with Exchange email, please contact the IST Service Desk at ext. 44357.

IST continues its efforts to restore all affected services.


9 a.m. update: IST continues its efforts to restore affected services. The below services are considered ‘fully restored’ as their only dependency was CAS authentication:

  • LEARN
  • Accessing WiFi

3 p.m. update: IST continues to work towards restoring affected services across campus. The below services are now accessible (sometimes in a degraded mode):

  • websites
  • myHRinfo
  • JobMine
  • Quest
  • Services requiring Central Authentication Service (CAS) authentication ( e.g., LEARN )
  • Accessing WiFi
  • Issues receiving/sending off-campus emails

Issues specific to BlackBerry: If you notice you are not receiving email on your BlackBerry since this morning, please:

  • Navigate to your System Settings (Settings icon) > Accounts
  • If your Uwaterloo account is ‘Not Connected – Account Invalid’, then select and enter your password.

9:55 a.m. update: Issues with Exchange email and SharePoint services continue. IST is working to resolve.


Planned network maintenance has resulted in problems with access to some services, including Exchange email (Connect), SharePoint and some websites. IST is working towards a resolution.
