Wireless network maintenance - February 14 and February 19

What is happening? New wireless IP ranges are coming into effect. Each range below is further broken down into subnets for eduroam, resnet, uw-events, and more.
 
  • IPv4 wireless range: 10.32.0.0/13
  • IPv6 wireless range: 2620:101:f000:700::/56
When is it happening? EC2 wireless will be migrated Thursday, February 14 at 7:00 a.m. Other buildings will follow, beginning Tuesday, February 19.

Exchange server maintenance - February 18 - March 4

What is happening? Exchange servers are being removed from service for maintenance/updates. Individual servers will be taken out of service between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. each night throughout the maintenance period. 
  
When is it happening? Monday, February 18  to Monday, March 4 - between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. each night.
 
Why is it happening? To keep the software current with vendor-provided updates.

Campus telephone auto-attendant not functional - February 7

UPDATE: Due to the emergency messaging that was in place yesterday for the school closure, the ability to interrupt the standard messaging is disabled. Callers would have been able to dial or say the name of the person they wanted to be transferred to after the entire message was played.

WatIAM configuration migration issue - January 30

What is happening? A configuration migration issue in WatIAM is causing employees that only have Workday accounts (no MyHRInfo accounts) from being assigned the ‘HR Employee’ role.  This is causing the email settings of these users from being properly provisioned. IST has resolved this issue for a number of accounts.

Resolved: Undergraduate students with casual employee status in Workday: Temporary re-direction of N: drives - January 29

What is happening? Undergraduate students with casual employee status in Workday recently had their N: drives re-directed to ‘fileu’, instead of ‘files’.
 
When did this issue begin? Between Monday, January 28 at 10:00 p.m. and Tuesday, January 29 at 2:00 a.m.
 
When was this issue resolved? At ~1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, N: drives for these casual employees were re-directed back to ‘files’.

Grouper has moved - January 28

What is happening? Grouper has moved from https://glenlyon.private.uwaterloo.ca/ to https://grouper.private.uwaterloo.ca/. Users should bookmark the new URL to access Grouper, however the old URL has been redirected.

Removal of OneNote integration in Microsoft Teams - January 24

What is happening? The OneNote first-party app in Microsoft Teams will be removed as it is an unsupported application for Office 365 Education accounts.

When is this happening?  Thursday, January 24 at 10:00 a.m.

What is the impact to users? Microsoft Teams users will no longer be able to access OneNote from within the Teams application. Removing the OneNote app from Teams will have no impact on the functionality of the stand-alone OneNote program, and no content will be lost.

Scheduled testing of the Emergency Notification System - January 31

What is happening? We will be testing the University’s campus-wide emergency communication system. 

When is this happening? Thursday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m.                                              

What is the impact? Emergency communication channels being tested include: 

  • Tweets to @UWaterloo and @WatSAFEapp 

  • WatSAFE mobile app 

  • The ‘UW Emerge’ on-screen pop-up for desktops and laptops 

  • Skype for Business Instant Messages
