Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) rate limit issues - May 17

What is happening? IST has discovered that ARP denial of service protection is being triggered at an increased rate in some buildings. The issue has been observed in East Campus 1 (EC1), EC2, EC4, EC5, and Needles Hall and appears to be isolated to Windows 10 machines. Network Services is working with other IST teams to identify the source of the anomalous behaviour.

When is this happening? Issues began on Thursday, May 17 and are ongoing.

UWaterloo Scholar upgrade – May 23

What is happening? UWaterloo Scholar (https://uwaterloo.ca/scholar) is being upgraded to version 1.5.

NEW: Two-factor authentication website

IST is pleased to announce the launch of the Two-factor Authentication (2FA) website. Powered by DUO, two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to university accounts. Verifying your identity using a second factor (such as your mobile device) prevents others from accessing your accounts, even if they know your password.

What is happening? As part of the regular maintenance of IST services, updates will be applied to SharePoint servers. These updates will impact both mySharePoint.uwaterloo.ca and SharePoint.uwaterloo.ca services.

When is this happening? Wednesday, May 16  from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17.

RESOLVED: Lynda.com unavailable

RESOLVED: The issue has been resolved and access to Lynda.com has been restored.

What is happening? An issue is preventing users from accessing Lynda.com. After attempting to log in, users are returned with a “Permission denied” message indicating they authenticated, but do not have access to the resource.

IST’s Portfolio Management Group (PMG) is excited to announce the launch of their new professional development series, Project and Portfolio Management Community of Practice (PPM CoP). These unique sessions offer participants an opportunity to learn more about key aspects of project and portfolio management while tying in often overlooked and unexpected facets of this work, such as planning and prioritization, key performance measurement, emotional intelligence, policies and trends, and organizational change management.

SharePoint upgrade - May 26

What is being done?  SharePoint is being upgraded from SharePoint 2013 to the new version, SharePoint 2016. 

Why is this being done? This is part of the normal IST upgrade and maintenance process. This upgrade will provide newer features and options available in SharePoint 2016 Server (Enterprise).

When is it being done?  Saturday, May 26 between 7:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
