Forms and WatVote sites: WCMS upgrade to 2.6.0 – December 20

What is happening? All WCMS forms (sites at uwaterloo.ca/forms/*) and WatVote sites are being upgraded to 2.6.0. Full release notes are available at: https://uwaterloo.ca/web-resources/news/wcms-version-260-release

When is this happening? Wednesday, December 20 from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21.

Note: WatVote sites will be upgraded after 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20.

Reporting IT service issues during the holidays

The University will be closed December 23, 2017 until January 2, 2018

During the holidays, if you notice an outage of the campus network or any major IST-maintained computing facility, you can leave a voice message at 519-888-4357 or submit a request online.

Please note only critical requests, such as a network outage, will be handled. Requests, such as password problems, will be processed in the usual manner once the University re-opens on January 2.

What is happening? WatVote will be temporarily unavailable while the WCMS server is upgraded.

When is this happening? Wednesday, December 20 from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21.

Together we deliver: IST announces strategic plan for 2017-2020

In 2016, IST embarked on a strategic planning process that was guided by key questions about who we are as a department, the work that we do, improvements that can be made, and how we measure our success. The process included an important engagement and consultative period that helped to focus our efforts into five themes, and defined the strategy of the plan.

PBX maintenance (Phone and voicemail outages) – December 14 – 17

What is happening? The Campus Avaya PBX will be patched and rebooted to keep current with vendor provided updates. Multiple outages will occur over the four-day maintenance period. Please see the full maintenance schedule and work breakdown/impact below.

What is happening? We will be testing the University’s campus-wide emergency communication system.

Qualtrics maintenance and downtime – December 18-21

What is happening? Qualtrics will be undergoing site maintenance to merge a department University of Waterloo (UW) Qualtrics accounts into the central UW Qualtrics account.

When is this happening? Monday, December 18, from 8:00 a.m. until Thursday, December 21, at 7:00 p.m.

What is the impact? All active surveys will still be available for survey participants to complete. Users will not be able to login into their Qualtrics accounts to do survey administration, or to access results during the maintenance window.

Security alert - Apple vulnerability bug - November 29

There is currently a previously undisclosed critical vulnerability affecting some versions of macOS. Users running macOS 10.13 "High Sierra" with remote desktop enabled should apply the patch released by Apple or disable this functionality. Disable screen sharing at System Preferences > Sharing> Screen Sharing.
