Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 end-of-life - removal – November 3

What is happening? Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 will be removed from all IST managed computers in Academic Support departments.

When is this happening? Friday, November 3 at 11:00 p.m.

Wireless firmware updates – October 18

What is happening? Firmware updates will be performed on the wireless controllers to apply critical bug fix patches.

When is this happening? Wednesday, October 18 from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m.

What is the impact? Wireless clients will experience an interruption to network service while the controllers reboot.

Email security alert - October 16

What is happening? The IST security team has been made aware of a phishing attempt purportedly coming from individuals internal and external to the University.  If you receive an email with the subject line “You Have {1} New Important Message” please do not click on any links within the message and be sure to delete the email. IST is investigating to determine a way to prevent further emails from reaching users.

Outbound email issues to EDU accounts - October 3

What is happening? Outbound mail to EDU accounts is currently backlogged due to excessive traffic. Mail is still being delivered but with substantial delays. There are approximately 8000 messages in the backlog.

When is this happening? Issues began at approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning and are ongoing.

Who does this impact? This issue affects ALL outbound email to EDU accounts.

Office 365 email issues with iOS 11 Apple update – September 22

Microsoft has announced that the native Mail app (Mail.app) on iPhones and iPads that have upgraded to iOS 11 is not functioning as expected as users are unable to send or reply to email. Users can send or reply to emails using the web-based Office 365 email application or by installing another email application until this issue is fixed. At this time, Microsoft or Apple have not announced a solution.

Note: These issues don’t occur in iOS 10.

SharePoint maintenance - September 27

What is happening? As part of the regular maintenance of IST services, updates will be applied to SharePoint servers. These updates will impact both mySharePoint.uwaterloo.ca and SharePoint.uwaterloo.ca services.

When is this happening? Wednesday, September 27 from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 28.

Student accounts compromised - September 19

What is happening? Over this past weekend, several hundred student email accounts were compromised as a result of a phishing scam. IST has been actively resolving issues with individual students since Monday morning and will continue to do so.

What is the impact? Accounts identified as having been compromised have been locked to prevent further issues. Since email accounts rely on WatIAM credentials, other services such as Nexus accounts, Quest, LEARN and WaterlooWorks are also affected.

reports.data.uwaterloo.ca upgrade – September 19

What is happening? The servers for reports.data.uwaterloo.ca are being upgraded to a newer version to support new dashboard visualizations.

When is this happening? Tuesday, September 19 from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.

What is the impact? The service is load-balanced, so user-facing outage is expected to be minimal. Reports on the site may be briefly unavailable during the maintenance window.

iCIMS Maintenance - September 23

The University's staff recruiting platform (iCIMS) will be unavailable on Saturday, September 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 a.m. for scheduled maintenance.
