Infrastructure changes affecting WCMS sites

Infrastructure improvements will be implemented soon to improve database stability. Pilot sites have already been migrated to the new database structure. Notifications will go out as database restructuring affects sites; beginning soon. For production sites, we are going to be recommending that you disable forms on your sites and refrain from making edits, as we will be copying databases and upgrading before switching  in order to limit downtime to a fraction of a second.

WCMS pilot sites database migration – June 22

What is happening? All WCMS pilot sites will be migrated to a new database structure.

Why is this happening? IST is working to improve the stability of the databases that serve the WCMS. 

When is this happening? Thursday, June 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23.

Note: Additional upgrades will be performed throughout the next few weeks. Notice will be sent prior to the migration of production sites, which will contain additional instructions.

iCIMS maintenance - June 24

The University's staff recruiting platform (iCIMS) will be unavailable on Saturday June 24 from 5:00 to 9:00 a.m. for scheduled maintenance.

Email security alert - June 19

What is happening? The IST security team has been made aware of a phishing attempt on uwaterloo.ca email accounts. If you receive an email that asks you to verify and renew your account i, please do not click on any links or open attachments and delete the email. Contact soc@uwaterloo.ca if you have opened the attachment or followed any links that may have been in the email. IST is investigating to determine a way to prevent further emails from reaching users.

RESOLVED: The issue with mySharePoint has been resolved and it is now available. The outage lasted approximately 20 minutes.

SharePoint maintenance – June 20

What is happening? As part of the regular maintenance of IST services, updates will be applied to SharePoint servers. These updates will impact both mySharePoint.uwaterloo.ca and SharePoint.uwaterloo.ca services.

When is this happening? Tuesday, June 20 from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20.

Skype for Business core system upgrade – June 17

What is happening? As the final part of the migration to Skype for Business from Lync, the core system pool needs to be upgraded to Skype for Business.

When is this happening? Saturday, June 17 from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 18.

UWaterloo Scholar upgrade - June 14

What is happening? UWaterloo Scholar (https://uwaterloo.ca/scholar) is being upgraded to 1.2.

Campus DNS outage resolved – June 13

What is happening? There was a campus DNS outage this morning as a result of an update made to campus infoblox devices.  The change was rolled back and the issue was resolved.

When did this happen? The outage occurred between 7:30 and 8:05 a.m. this morning.

What was the impact? Access to the wireless and wired network on campus were unavailable during the outage. It did not impact anyone trying to access the network from off-campus.

Changes to Exchange 2016 meeting room organization – June 8

What is happening? The rooms in the Outlook Web Application (OWA) are now grouped by building.

Why is this happening? This change has been made to address the Exchange 2016 default system setting that limits the number of rooms displayed in OWA to 100. This change should make booking Exchange meeting rooms through OWA easier. The room display limit only applies to OWA however the room lists are also available to use in the Outlook client.

When is this happening? The changes are effective immediately.
