What is happening? As part of the continuous upgrade process for Windows 10, IST will be advertising a managed upgrade via SCCM for Windows 10 workstations (Academic Support). The advertisement will allow you to select when the upgrade applies. Machines running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 are not affected. (IST was upgraded before the holiday break).
When is this happening? Wednesday, January 10 to Monday, February 5. The upgrade will be available for you to run (via the Software Centre) at a scheduled time, provided the computer is both powered on and connected to the wired network. The process is expected to take approximately one hour to complete.
Deployment Deadline: On Monday, February 5 (after 11:00 p.m.) the deployment will become mandatory and apply to any remaining workstations.
What is the impact? The upgrade does not reimage the computer. It will only run on Windows 10 systems and upgrade the current OS to version 1703. Applications will not be removed or reinstalled. User profiles will not be affected. There should be no functional changes to the systems. Some icons and customized visual settings may revert to defaults. If you note any anomalies on the upgraded systems please contact the IST Service desk.
What do you need to do? The Software Centre will remind you that the advertisement is available every time you logon to your workstation. (See Pop-up screenshot attached). Your choices are to upgrade right away, defer the upgrade to a later time, or to snooze the reminder.
Note: Default business hours are between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. if you select to defer the upgrade for outside of business hours.
