Connecting to the eduroam wireless network using Windows Vista

  1. At the Start menu type Control Panel and select the search result.

  1. Select “Manually connect to a wireless network.”
  1. Type in the following information:
  • Network name: eduroam (it’s important you type this in lower case only)
  • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Encryption type: AES
  • Select the check mark next to Start this connection automatically.
  • Click Next.

  1. Select Change connection settings.
  1. Select the Security tab.
  • Choose a network authentication method: Protected EAP (PEAP) and click the Settings button.

  1. On the Protected EAP Properties window:
  • Check on "Validate server certificate"
  • Select “Connect to these servers” and type
  • Check "GlobalSign Root CA" as the trusted root certification authority. Note: If you see two "GlobalSign Root CA" certificates listed, select both.
  • Check: “Don’t prompt user to authorize new servers or trusted CAs”

Vista Certificate

  1. Select “Configure” next to the “Select Authentication Method” and ensure “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)” is unchecked.

  2. Click OK and Close to exit out of the properties and security windows. 
  3. Locate the network icon in the taskbar and go to the list of wireless networks and select eduroam and click Connect.

  1. Select Enter/select additional log on information.

  1. Enter you as the username and your Quest password as your password. The Logon Domain field should remain blank.

  1. Select OK. This will take you to a window prompting you to Save the network and to connect automatically. Ensure that these are checked, and press Close.

You are now connected to the eduroam wireless network. From now on, your computer will automatically connect to this wireless network.
