 I\, MCGILL UNIVERSITY\n\nQuantum phenomena have the potential to speed up
  the solution of hard\noptimization problems. For example quantum annealin
 g\, based on the\nquantum tunneling effect\, has recently been shown to sc
 ale\nexponentially better with system size as compared with classical\nsim
 ulated annealing. However\, current realizations of quantum\nannealers wit
 h superconducting qubits face two major challenges.\nFirst\, the connectiv
 ity between the qubits is limited\, excluding many\noptimization problems 
 from a direct implementation.
