SUMMARY:Application of a resource theory for magic states to fault-tolerant
\nquantum computing
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:MARK HOWARD & EARL T. CAMPBELL\n\nMotivated by their necessity
for most fault-tolerant quantum\ncomputation schemes\, we formulate a reso
urce theory for magic states.\nWe first show that robustness of magic is a
well-behaved magic\nmonotone that operationally quantifies the classical
simulation\noverhead for a Gottesman-Knill type scheme using ancillary mag
ic\nstates. Our framework subsequently finds immediate application in the\
ntask of synthesizing non-Clifford gates using magic states.
