SUMMARY:Coupling surface acoustic waves to artificial atoms to study the\np
 hononic Lamb shift.
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:THOMAS AREF\, UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN\n\nMy
research focuses on probing superconducting quantum bits or qubits\nwith a
coustic radiation in the form of surface acoustic waves (SAWs).\nThis allo
ws the investigation of sound interacting with artificial\natoms on a quan
tum mechanical level\, i.e. quantum acoustics with\ntraveling phonons. We
can then reproduce findings from quantum optics\nwith sound taking over th
e role of light\, highlighting the\nsimilarities between phonons and photo
 ns.
